Today is the first day of the WinterABC2021 and the start of my second blogging challenge. If you didn’t know already, I started a 7-day blogging challenge on May 6 and completed it late on May 17 because of some technical issues with my blog. I was overjoyed to have completed that challenge, though.
This time around, I registered my blog for the WinterABC2021 hosted by the hardworking team of Afrobloggers. Their mission is to be a platform that helps African grassroots digital storytellers connect and create an environment that is enabling and creatively inspiring.
If you’re an African storyteller, creative, blogger, influencer, and so forth, this is a community I would recommend to checkout. They host various activities one of them being the winterABC.
What is WinterABC
For starters, winterABC is a month-long storytelling festival that is held every year in the month of June when it is winter on the Southern part of the African continent. This festival is open to all African content creators regardless of what platform they use for expression and storytelling. If you’re a podcaster or YouTuber, you can still choose to participate in this festival.
During this festival, content creators will create 22 posts for the 22 days of June excluding weekends, which is dedicated to rest, promotion, and connecting.
Themes for this WinterABC2021 Festival
The 2021 festival is different from the past two years. In the previous years, the Afroblogger’s team provided topics and people would create content that revolved around them.
But this year is different! Afrobloggers introduced themes to allow creators of all niches to create the topics they want that aligned with their site’s objectives. Isn’t that exciting? That means anyone can join this festival as long as they have a story to share.
So these are the themes for this June:
|14-18||Business and Tech Week|
|21-25||Culture and Fashion Week|
Why did I decide to Join WinterABC2021
There are so many reasons I decided to join this year’s festival and I will only share three things.
1. To be a part of something
If you don’t already know, this is the first time for me to join a challenge where many content creators from different parts of the continent will be joining. It is truly an honor and privilege to be part of something huge such as this festival. And I really want to do my best and follow through.
2. To be consistent
I know this is a very common reason for many content creators. Everyone wants to be consistent because it is through consistency that we grow and maintain our audience. I just wanted to put it out there. For this 22 days, I want to try to be consistent.
3. Try out different topics
The idea of a theme each week makes content all the more varied on each of our platforms. I think I’m ready to try something new and add a touch of color to this blog. So watch out for that!
My Commitment Pledge
For this festival, I decided to make a simple commitment pledge.
How Can I Join
As I said earlier, anyone can join this festival. All you have to do is register your blog or any other platforms on the Afroblogger’s website. Then use the hashtag #winterABC2021 whenever you post new content. For more information, visit Afroblogger’s website here.
